Our purpose

We set out to document the fact that learning need not look like the typical school. That learning need not have a particular structure, or a linear progression, or a linear measurement system. That “learning” is different from “education” and that “education” is different from “school.”

We wanted to see if learning could exist without compliance being the primary mode, if the passions and problems of children could be the driver of learning, if we can possibly give children the opportunities that let's all find their way to good and healthy lives.

So we went out into America. Urban, suburban, rural. Wealthy and poor. White and Black. Born here and immigrant, seeking out the people who were trying to do the right things.

And we listened.
